My pottery is first bisque fired
in an electric kiln to a temperature that will create a fairly durable peice, yet porous enough to absorb carbon and fumes
in the next firing.
The pieces are then fired in a wash tub using sagebrush, dried
sheep or horse dung, and pinion pine needles as fuel. This technique produces the unique array of colors.
The pieces are then left to cool, then washed with water. When
dry, a clear sealer is applied to the surface. This sealer keeps the piece clean from being handled
and the environment.
Smoke fired pottery is very porous and not intended for holding water
or food use, but a unique, one of a kind, decorative piece from fire and clay!
